The Challenge
The Terrace Bar was dark, dingy, and largely overlooked. It served mainly as a student nighttime venue but was tired and unwelcoming. Our challenge was to revitalize this neglected space into a vibrant, multifunctional social student venue. We aimed to transform it into a place that could seamlessly transition from morning coffee breaks, to lunchtime meet-ups, and into lively late-night events, all while adhering to a tight budget.
What we did
We reimagined the Terrace Bar with the vibrant energy of a city center hotspot, optimizing sustainability and budget to revitalize the space into a dynamic student hub. Our design was both cost-effective and visually striking, meeting diverse student needs from day to night.
Key Design Highlights:
Branding: Enhanced identity with bold new signage, making the bar a standout attraction on campus.
Refurbished Features: Reduced costs and environmental footprint by updating the original bar and copper ceiling.
Lighting: Introduced a versatile lighting system that brightens the space for day and night use, featuring ambient and dramatic pendant lights.
Functionality: Overhauled the bar for better functionality with a new suspended gantry and versatile seating for all types of student activities.

Our redesign of the Terrace Bar has proven the value of student-focused spaces in enhancing university life. With strategic enhancements focused on sustainability, the transformation has established the Terrace Bar as a central, dynamic student social space which now supports a broad array of student activities, significantly enriching the campus experience.
It was an absolute pleasure to work with RED again for this project and, as previously, they have transformed one of our SU spaces to elevate our offer for the students of Warwick. From brief through to delivery, overcoming challenges on the way, the team understood our vision, incorporated our ideas, and used their expertise to design and produce a student bar that looks truly outstanding. A massive thank you to Dean and the whole team – we’ll look forward to working together again in the future!
