The Challenge

Edwards & Walker’s space had untapped potential and didn’t fully reflect their brand or the excellence of their eyecare services. Owner Pretty aimed to redesign the practice into a welcoming, opulent, yet unpretentious environment that stood out from typical optical practices.

We began with an on-site consultation to understand the space and Pretty’s vision. Leveraging our extensive optical retail design experience, our team blended their expertise with Pretty’s vision, crafting a detailed design brief.

What we did

The brief balanced the need for a positive customer-patient experience with the creation of an efficient workspace for staff.

A critical aspect of our strategy was the reconfiguration of the ground floor to enhance flow and functionality, which included redesigning key touch points including: the reception, children’s section, dispensing areas, and repairs.

Our goal was to take Pretty’s vision of Parisian chic and translate it into a cohesive interior design theme. We created an elegant, boutique-style space with a natural colour palette enriched by gold accents to add a touch of luxury. Careful consideration was given to ensure the space remained warm and approachable, creating an inviting environment that resonates with a diverse customer base.

The tender process for the fit-out was something we meticulously managed to ensure a successful contractor was selected based on cost efficiency, quality, and timely delivery.

The redesign has completely transformed the practice, aligning it with the Edwards & Walker brand while significantly enhancing the overall customer experience.

Since completion, the practice has welcomed over 300 new patients and seen a 20% increase in sales.

As Pretty put it, “this has more or less covered the cost of the refit”- a testament to the powerful impact thoughtful design can have on a businesses success.

Result

I had seen Dean present at a optical conference years ago. But I remember writing down his company name. Why? Because RED didn’t just do the normal – stereotypical optometry fit outs. I always want to do things differently and I knew from Dean’s portfolio he was the one I needed to work with.

Optical practice fits are so different to a retail fit, you need someone who knows the sector, who knows about your repair station set up, dispense drawers, collection areas etc. I knew I was going to be hard work – but Dean was patient and worked with me. I had a last minute wobble the week we were actually ripping out the practice. I wanted to change the colour scheme completely! I know crazy – but Dean was really calm about it – and he worked with me to achieve what I wanted.

Dean has a keen eye for those little things that us as clinicians may not see. He even found us the contractors to do the fit out and Ian from ID was second to none – meticulous and got the refit done in record speed.

The outcome now – we have a stunning practice – revenue has increased by 20% and I actually enjoy coming into my workspace – it feels special. Dean you nailed it!
